Joanne Hargreaves – BBASS Co-ordinator (East) JHoe Hargreaves

My name is Joanne Hargreaves and I am the Bereavement, Befriending, Advocacy Support Service (BBASS) Co-ordinator for the East of Cornwall. I moved to Cornwall in 1991, as I have roots in Plymouth. I am currently living near Liskeard with my partner, my son, and our two dogs. My hobbies include growing lots of lovely vegetables at my allotment (weather prevailing!) which fits well with my love of cooking.  I also enjoy going for walks with the dogs and taking in the beautiful scenery all around Cornwall.

I originally joined Volunteer Cornwall on secondment in March 2012 from Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change to join the Cornwall Works with Families programme as a key worker; I am still currently doing this job role part time in St Austell. I spent three years doing Community Development work in St Austell for CN4C, and prior to this my work background was in retail.

My role as BBASS Co-ordinator is to deal with all aspects of running the service. I recruit and manage the training of the volunteer Befrienders and Advocates, manage Client referrals, match Befrienders and Advocates to Clients, as well as managing the service provided to Clients.

The West of Cornwall is defined as including Truro and everything south, including Falmouth, Helston and The Lizard. This also includes everything south-west of Truro; Redruth, Camborne, St. Ives, Hayle and Penzance to name just a few.

I moved to Cornwall in 2011, where my family are from and still live. I am currently living in Truro with my fiancée, two children, and our two dogs. I joined Volunteer Cornwall in September 2012.

Before joining Volunteer Cornwall, I worked for British Telecom as an IT Project Manager for nearly 10 years, Suffolk County Football Association as a Volunteer Development Officer for just over 2 years and as a Project Manager with Suffolk Primary Care Trust for 18 months.

I am also a football referee, and my hobbies include coaching my children’s football team, golf and horse riding – I even have my own horse!

My name is Andrew and I work as the central administrator for the project.
I have worked as an administrator for Volunteer Cornwall for four years, this initially started out as a volunteer placement which progressed into full-time employment. Through the time I have spent as a part of the organisation, I have worked with a variety of projects ranging from Employment Support to Environment and Sustainability.

Before joining Volunteer Cornwall, I volunteered my time as both a support for various Youth Clubs around the country and as a computer troubleshooter on an online community forum.

My role as admin support for the BBASS project is to act as a central point of contact for enquiries when either of the Co-ordinators are unavailable and to process paperwork and data to help ensure information is accurate and relevant for both supporting clients and reporting progress.

Sam Gross – Advocacy Volunteer

My name is Sam and I am the advocacy volunteer for the Bbass project. I joined Volunteer Cornwall in August 2012 having previously worked in London for two top 100 law firms.

I completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at Exeter University and the Legal Practice course at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

My role as the advocacy volunteer for Bbass includes supporting, training and providing information for the advocates on this project.
